HRPA Queen's Park Awareness Day tomorrow: HRPA asks MPPs to add three new Human Resources designations to Act
"Human Resources Professionals Association is updating HR certifications to address changing workplaces and growing demands placed on HR professionals."
-- Bill Greenhalgh, CEO, HRPA
TORONTO, Dec. 8, 2014 /CNW/ - The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) is having their Awareness Day at Queens Park tomorrow to promote the new competency-based HR certification framework that breaks human resources practice into three levels: entry, professional and executive.
"We look forward to updating Ontario's MPPs on new developments in human resource practice and future implications," said Bill Greenhalgh, CEO, HRPA.
The new framework creates three new HR designations:
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP)—CHRP once again becomes the entry-level designation intended for HR professionals in roles that are mostly administrative in nature;
- Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) —Specialist/generalist HR professionals responsible for: managing projects and programs; implementing plans; and delegating tasks; and
- Certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE)—Executive level of experience and responsibility including: leading the HR function in large organizations, developing projects and strategies, Board and Committee functions, and managing executive compensation.
The existing CHRPs, SHRPs and CHRP Candidates are grandfathered into the CHRL, CHRE, and CHRP designations respectively.
"We are updating our competency framework and HR designations for two major reasons," said Greenhalgh. "First, with the passage of the Registered Human Resources Professionals Act, 2013, the government has trusted HRPA to self-regulate in the public interest as a Tier 1 profession, and updating the framework was necessary to do this effectively.
"Second, we needed our core designation, the CHRP, to again reflect entry level responsibilities so that we may add professional and executive designations to better reflect the evolving needs of the marketplace.
"We believe the Act is a major progressive step forward for HRPA members. It has positive career impacts and a new designation framework will build on its success becoming highly valued not just by members, but even internationally by other HR organizations," concluded Greenhalgh.
