Huawei Canada Takes Home RBC Immigrant Advantage Award at 6th Annual Immigrant Success Awards
Wins for commitment to hiring new Canadians
MARKHAM, ON, April 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Huawei Canada, a leading information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today was honoured with the RBC Immigrant Advantage Award during the 6th Annual Immigrant Success Awards hosted by the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) and RBC. The prestigious award recognizes organizations that best demonstrate the positive business impact of leveraging the talents of skilled immigrants.
Huawei Canada was chosen as the winner of the 2012 RBC Immigrant Advantage Award due to the emphasis it places on hiring skilled immigrants who have past experience working with Huawei technologies in other countries. In a highly competitive job market where Huawei is competing against better known technology companies for talent, brand awareness and loyalty is typically stronger among employees from abroad versus local professionals. With employees from 35 different countries, skilled immigrants have contributed significantly to strengthening Huawei's position as a leader in the Canadian ICT sector.
"Winning the RBC Immigrant Advantage Award is a great honour for Huawei," said Sean Yang, President of Huawei Canada. "Our continued success in Canada would not be possible without the skills and experience that our diversified workforce bring to the company. We truly believe we represent the best of what Canada has to offer, and we are proud of our unique team."
Since establishing its Canadian operation in 2008, Huawei has grown its employee base to more than 400 people. Currently, there are approximately 300 employees at Huawei's Canadian headquarters in Markham, Ontario. Since opening in 2010, Huawei's Ottawa R&D facility has grown to 125 researchers and engineers, with plans to double in size by the end of 2012.
