Hudak to axe full-day kindergarten
Conservative plan to cut education would put economy at risk
QUEEN'S PARK, Sept. 3 /CNW/ - For eight years, Tim Hudak and the Conservatives took the axe to Ontario's schools when they fired teachers, allowed class sizes to balloon and cut funding for textbooks and supplies. Now he wants to continue that tradition and take the axe to full-day kindergarten.
Beginning next week at hundreds of Ontario schools, full-day kindergarten will give our kids a head start and make life a little easier for Ontario families. It's the first program of its kind in North America, and an investment that the Centre for Spatial Economics says will not only raise student achievement but boost the economy as well.
Tim Hudak just can't resist trash-talking teachers, parents and students when he calls full-day kindergarten "a shiny new car" that we "cannot afford". He wants it cut because it's simply too "big" (Media Availability - October 27, 2009).
It is big. It's big for Ontario families, big for students and will be a big boost for Ontario's economy.
The Conservatives have never understood how important our schools are to the economy. And his attack on early learning reveals that when it comes to investing in students, Tim Hudak just doesn't get it.
