TORONTO, May 21, 2015 /CNW/ - The popcorn and magic experience just got bigger! Today, shomi™ is available on Google Chromecast. For entertainment lovers, this is a great day indeed! Why? shomi members now have a simple and easy way to get the streaming service on the big screen by simply casting from their mobile device, tablet, or computer directly to a TV. From an un-dead crime solver in iZombie, to marauding Vikings, and the Sons of Anarchy biker code – these series demand a big-screen binge experience! And since the casting is from the shomi app, members will get the fully-immersive and interactive shomi experience, in HD quality, while watching on a larger TV screen. shomi features a deep library of exclusive content that the other guys don't have, so after hours of zombies, Vikings and motorcycles, shomi on Chromecast makes it super-easy to dive into award-winners Jane The Virgin and Transparent, The Americans, Modern Family, and more. With exclusive titles like Catastrophe, Mozart in the Jungle, and Transparent – not available on any broadcast service in Canada – Chromecast makes it easy for shomi members to experience these must-see series on the big screen.
"Even before we launched, Chromecast was on our shomi roadmap as a must-have for our service and I'm delighted that we're now able to deliver this experience to our members," said Ann Tebo, Director, Product Management, shomi. "With Chromecast, Apple TV, and Xbox 360, there are now three Internet-connected ways for customers to get great shomi content on the big screen."
"We're thrilled that Canadians will now be able to access all their favourite shomi programming on Chromecast," said Suveer Kothari, Director of Chromecast Partnerships, Google. "Chromecast lets you watch everything you love to stream on the screen of your choice, and with the new shomi app, it's never been easier to enjoy top shows on the biggest screen in your home."
What is it? How does it work? Chromecast and shomi are an ideal media match! Chromecast is a thumb-sized media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on a TV. Members can simply use their laptop, mobile device, or tablet to cast shomi right onto their big screen – while maintaining full functionality of the shomi online experience. Just plug and play!
shomi is available now in beta first to Rogers and Shaw Internet or cable customers, while conversations continue with other BDUs. shomi features an all-star TV content lineup of Canadian exclusives, including Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle; exclusive day-and-date releases of buzz-worthy series such as Jane The Virgin, iZombie, and The Originals; and past-seasons of many of the hottest shows on television, featuring Sons of Anarchy, The Americans, and Vikings. Beyond TV binges, shomi offers hand-picked movie favourites and fun kids-and-family content. Canadians can enjoy shomi online and on select tablets, mobile devices, set top boxes (on Rogers Channel 300 or through the Shaw On Demand menu), and Xbox 360. shomi is newly available on Apple TV and Chromecast.
