New Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers were developed in close partnership with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurses and Neonatal Therapists
TORONTO, March 23, 2017 /CNW/ - Today Huggies, the #1 diaper brand in Canadian hospitals, is launching a new diaper for the smallest babies – Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers. This diaper is made for those weighing less than two pounds (900 grams) and is specially-designed to help promote healthy growth and development while protecting the delicate skin of these most fragile babies.
With fewer than 1.4 percent of babies born each year falling within this category, Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) previously lacked a diaper solution specifically designed for this delicate population. Huggies worked closely with NICU nurses and neonatal therapists to ensure Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers would help meet the needs of these vulnerable babies. The narrow, gentle fasteners are specially sized to provide a secure fit without inhibiting the leg and hip for fetal tuck positioning. The soft, smooth liner and gentle leg gathers guard against leakage, and are uniquely designed to help avoid irritation of fragile, underdeveloped skin.
"We're passionate about helping all babies thrive, especially the smallest and most fragile. This Huggies diaper reflects our ongoing commitment to deliver innovative solutions for the NICU," said Eleonora Daireaux, Vice President, Huggies North America. "After hearing of the need for a diaper that meets the special requirements of these babies, our expert teams in skin science, research, product safety and manufacturing were inspired. Knowing every second counts for these babies, the team acted quickly to bring Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers from concept to launch in hospitals in just six months."
The process to create Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers included intensive research and design optimization, as well as interviews with nurses and neonatal therapists to ensure the design provided optimal fit for healthy growth and development. Every Huggies Little Snugglers Nano and Micro Preemie Diaper goes through a rigorous inspection process, including a 40-point hand inspection, and are individually folded and hand-packed with care for these vulnerable babies.
"Many nurses have spoken to me about wanting a smaller product to accommodate a preterm baby's bottom without limiting leg movement," said Sharon Dore, RN, PhD.McMaster University. "Nurses also wanted a diaper that allowed a waist fit to allow for umbilical lines. I am so pleased that Huggies has developed the Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diaper to respond to these patient's needs."
Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers join a portfolio of innovative solutions designed for the NICU, including Huggies Little Snugglers Micro Preemie Diapers and Huggies Natural Care Extra Sensitive Wipes, the first and only baby wipe developed specifically for premature baby skin.
To Huggies, the development of these products helps fulfill its No Baby Unhugged promise to ensure all babies get the care they need to thrive. In addition to delivering specially designed products for the smallest babies, this promise also includes a commitment to growing hospital hugger programs, supplying diaper and wipes donations, and supporting on-going research and resources like Every Change Matters™: A Guide to Developmental Diapering Care, a first-of-its-kind approach to help nurses and other healthcare professionals deliver their best care with every diaper change.
