CALEDON, ON, Sept. 5 /CNW/ - This morning, just before 9:00AM, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by a citizen who made a discovery in a wooded area near Beech Grove Sideroad and Mountainview Road in the Town of Caledon.
The Coroner has attended the scene and has determined that the remains are human.
The identity and the sex of the individual located will not be released pending a post mortem examination which will take place at the Office of the Chief Coroner in Toronto at a date yet to be determined.
The human remains have not yet been removed from the wooded area on the northside of Beech Grove Sideroad where they were earlier located. The OPP Forensic Identification Unit is currently on scene and assisting with this ongoing police investigation. As a result, Beech Grove Sideroad will remain closed between St. Andrews Road and Mountainview Road for a undetermined period of time in order to facilitate a comprehensive and detailed examination of the area.
Police investigators who are working on the disappearance of Sonia VARASCHIN have spoken with the VARASCHIN family and they are aware of this discovery.
The VARASCHIN family is requesting their continued privacy and do not wish to speak with any members of the media at this time.
