OTTAWA, Dec. 18, 2014 /CNW/ - The Humanitarian Coalition wants to thank its Rapid Response Network partners for their invaluable support during our joint appeal in response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The help of these key media outlets and businesses has allowed us both to reach more Canadians and to reduce the cost of processing transactions.
The following media outlets ran our ads at no cost: BellMedia, CBC-Radio-Canada, the Globe and Mail, Journal Métro, LaineyGossip.com, MetroNews, Rogers TV, and Shaw Media. Vancouver-based sign company Pattison Outdoor gave us free space on some of their physical and digital billboards. 20 Vic Malls also raised the profile of our appeal in their many properties across the country. The cumulative value of such placements is what allowed the Humanitarian Coalition to have a truly national presence.
For our member agencies, access to these large public platforms is one of the main benefits of the Humanitarian Coalition. Instead of competing with each other, together they are able to develop partnerships with organizations without forcing the latter to choose between them. This approach also eliminates the need to purchase advertising space. For Canadians, it means that a larger portion of each donation goes directly to relief programs.
Other partners played a role by collecting donations and waived regular fees. For instance, eBay added a donation option at checkout and posted online banners.
It is the generosity of Canadians, the support of key partners, and the expertise of our member agencies that, together, allowed the Humanitarian Coalition to raise $1.75 million in addition to the $3.5 million that our member agencies received from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD).
To everyone who contributed to our joint Ebola appeal, we extend our deepest gratitude.
