Husky sets the bar for corporate giving
CALGARY, March 4 /CNW/ - The Canadian Cancer Society will soon be hitting the road thanks to a generous contribution from Husky Energy. Representatives from Husky and the Canadian Cancer Society unveiled a new van at a donation ceremony today to support the Society's fundraising efforts.
"We're so grateful for the generous donation from Husky Energy," says Canadian Cancer Society Executive Director Dan Holinda. "Companies like Husky Energy lead the way in corporate giving. People want to work for companies that care about people and demonstrate a commitment to the quality of life in their community. We would like to thank Husky Energy for inspiring other organizations to join the fight."
"Our partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society speaks to our desire to improve the quality of life for our community," says Husky Energy President & Chief Executive Office John C.S. Lau. "It is our hope that Husky's gift will help make a difference for those living with this illness."
Husky Energy has donated more than $500,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society since 1997, primarily through its annual employee charitable campaign and matching programs. It has also participated in Society fundraisers, including the Relay for Life and Daffodil Days. Husky Energy is a loyal supporter of the Society's research and support services, and Husky employees are currently the Society's top employee giving group.
Cancer is the leading cause of premature death in Canada. Although two in five Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetimes, significant advances are being made in research and treatment. The Canadian Cancer Society is the leading charitable funder of cancer research nationwide and provides numerous services to enhance the quality of life of people living with cancer. Donors like Husky Energy make this possible.
Cancer is everyone's business. The Society can help companies realize their corporate and charitable objectives and has developed rewarding partnerships with many local, provincial and national companies.
