Hy-Drive Announces Third-Party Validation
Hy-Drive's HGS Delivers More Than Eleven Percent Fuel Savings Confirmed by Third-Party Validation Customer Also Reports Improved Engine Performance
Hy-Drive Technologies Ltd. (HGS-V)
MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 25 /CNW/ - Hy-Drive's Hydrogen Generating System (HGS(R)) again proves that it can significantly improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. Professional Service Industries, Inc. (PSI) of Portland, Oregon concluded their Third-Party audit on results reported during a series of extensive tests that were completed on trucks operated by Ontario Waste Management (a division of Courtice Auto Wreckers Ltd.) of Oshawa, Ontario. The recently conducted tests followed SAE Type IV Fuel Testing protocols and concluded that HGS delivered an overall average fuel saving of 11.9%, with an opacity reduction of 45%. Opacity is a means to measure particulate emissions in the air. PSI is an industry-leading engineering, consulting and testing firm with 125 offices.
"I am absolutely convinced that Hy-Drive's technology significantly reduces fuel consumption and lowers particulate emissions," said Harvey "Skip" Ambrose, President of Ontario Waste Management (OWM). Test results on Cat powered company trucks that were equipped with HGS units were so compelling that OWM recently placed an order for 18 units. Mr. Ambrose added that "HGS technology will allow us to get meaningful savings and reduce the environmental impact of our fleet of waste haulage trucks in Ontario."
HGS definitely delivers upon its fuel economy promise in a real-world setting, according to one of the drivers at OWM. "I tested an HGS unit on my truck, which is powered by a 475-horsepower Cat engine, and achieved an average 13.5% improvement in fuel economy" said Dave Tomchyshen. "On my regular run, there's a long grade, about four miles; my truck always use to labour around fifty (50) miles per hour pulling the grade," he said. "After installing the HGS unit, I was able to take the grade at over sixty (60) miles per hour every time without the engine labouring at all. From the moment we turned the unit on there was a tangible difference in power."
Glenn Windrem of Windrem Trucking in Peterborough, Ontario, concurs with Tomchyshen's assessment of HGS benefits. "We haul aggregates, iron, stone and heavy equipment for the construction industry and we've been testing two of the HGS units. On a typical day, one of our trucks with HGS burns 14 gallons less fuel than an identical truck without HGS. In addition to the identical specifications, these trucks are working the exact same job, traveling the same routes and pulling the same loads," said Mr. Windrem, "The truck with the HGS installed gets better fuel mileage and, in fact, the fuel saving ends up being about $43 per day."
Hy-Drive's HGS generates and injects small amounts of hydrogen gas on-demand into the air intake of an engine. The enriched air/fuel mixture burns more efficiently thereby allowing the engine to extract more clean energy from the fuel while reducing emissions. The result is improved fuel economy, lower emissions and improved engine performance.
"We are pleased to receive another third-party validation", commented Fred Florence Hy-Drive's Chief Operating Officer, "but, more importantly, we are very excited to see early adopters of the HGS technology get "real world" savings. These customers' positive results are critically important for us as we move towards full commercialization."
About Hy-Drive
Hy-Drive is a technology firm that has developed a proprietary, patented hydrogen generating system. Hy-Drive's Hydrogen Generating System ("HGS(TM)") generates and injects hydrogen gas into a regular internal combustion engine, enhancing the combustion process by allowing fuel to burn more efficiently and completely.
