TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, Hydro One announced the launch of a pilot of its Outage Notification tool. This new service allows Hydro One residential customers to register in advance to receive proactive, personalized text messages or email alerts about outages that may be affecting their homes, cottages, farms or small businesses.
Over 132,000 residential customers in the following areas are invited to register for the pilot through Hydro One's MyAccount portal for the new Outage Notification service:
- Alliston
- Dundas
- Orangeville
- Bolton
- Guelph
- Thorold
- Simcoe
"To better serve our customers, we are piloting our new proactive Outage Notification tool," said Carm Marcello, President and CEO, Hydro One. "Based on customer feedback, we know our customers want up-to-date information that will allow them to make decisions if the lights go out. This tool will now make getting that information even easier."
Customers enrolled in the pilot will receive a text message or email notification once an outage has been reported near their residence. Customers enrolled in the program will continue to receive updates as the estimated time of power restoration is updated and when the power is restored.
This pilot is the third phase of Hydro One's improved customer notification program. In 2009 the Company launched Storm Center, the outage map on www.HydroOne.com. The Company's popular outage app was launched in May 2013 with nearly 200,000 downloads and was recently named one of the "Top 200" apps in Canada under the Utilities category.
