TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2019 /CNW/ - Hydro One crews have restored power to more than 165,000 customers as severe weather and high winds continue to cause power outages across most of the province. With approximately 24,000 customers currently without power, Hydro One is continuing to deploy crews and damage assessors to respond as quickly as possible in areas affected by the storm as soon as it is safe to do so.
"By moving our crews in advance to the locations predicted to be hardest hit, we were able to immediately start restoring power and have successfully returned power to more than 165,000 customers," said Greg Kiraly, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One. "While sustained wind and road closures are making it difficult for crews to access damaged equipment in some areas, we continue to make excellent progress restoring power."
Hydro One prioritizes emergencies and restoration to bring power back to the largest number of customers in the shortest period of time. An estimated time of restoration will be determined for each outage once damage has been assessed.
Hydro One is also receiving assistance from Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. With this level of severe weather, Hydro One continues to thank its customers for their patience as crews work to restore power.
Stay safe during a power outage
If the power system in your area is affected by bad weather, be sure to stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to the police and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
