Hydro One restores power to all customers in 24 hours
- More than 90,000 customers restored following damaging storm -
TORONTO, Oct. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Early this morning, Hydro One crews restored power to all customers affected by Monday's lightning and wind storm. Crews responded to more than 525 separate outages in central Ontario, replacing poles and transformers, and restringing lines. Hydro One's customer care centre fielded more than 35,000 calls during the storm, making sure customers knew help was on the way and updating them on progress.
"This was a tremendous effort from Hydro One crews, pulling together all available resources and not stopping until power was restored to every customer," said Greg Kiraly, Chief Operating Officer, Hydro One. "This is the benefit of a large utility that spans the province. We are able to pull in resources to respond quickly and safely to such a large and damaging storm."
Hydro One's Grid Control Centre tracks incoming storms and was able to quickly mobilize line maintainers, arbourists, damage assessors and helicopters to locate damage and restore power. Although power is restored to all customers, crews will continue to clean up from the storm today and respond to any new calls.
Hydro One reminds all customers as the fall storm season is here, to restock their 72- hour emergency preparedness kit. The kit should contain:
