OTTAWA, Nov. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa today announced a record $219,109 contribution to United Way Ottawa through its 2013 workplace campaign, marking an important effort to creating lasting change in the community.
The results were announced at Hydro Ottawa's Annual Employee Forum and Recognition Event where employees were honoured for workplace achievements and community involvement.
"Giving back is an integral part of who we are as a company," says Hydro Ottawa's President and Chief Executive Officer Bryce Conrad. "By working together with the United Way, we are able to act as local champions for change and see real impacts in our community."
The funds were derived from employee donations and corporate matching dollars allocated to Hydro Ottawa's Brighter Tomorrows Fund - a community investment program designed to support frontline agencies that serve people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless to invest in energy-efficient technologies or products.
"United Way Ottawa applauds Hydro Ottawa and its employees for their leadership and generosity in supporting our community," said Goldy Hyder, United Way's Community Campaign Co-Chair and President of Hill+Knowlton Strategies Canada. "The success of Hydro Ottawa's campaign contributes to United Way's goal to change the lives of more than 76,000 lives in our city."
Supporting United Way Ottawa is just one way Hydro Ottawa contributes to the well-being of its community. From educating children and youth about electricity safety to helping to mitigate the impact of energy costs for those in need, Hydro Ottawa's almost-650 employees continue to be dedicated workers and caring citizens.
