OTTAWA, Sept. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa was honoured today with a National Outstanding Achievement Award for its Safe Supervisor Program. The award was presented by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) at its Professional Development Conference in Montreal and is given to a professional or group for an outstanding achievement that advances the science or profession.
"Nothing is more important than the safety of our employees and customers," said Hydro Ottawa President and CEO Bryce Conrad. "The Safe Supervisor Program is just one example of the many safety and trades training programs in place at Hydro Ottawa to ensure that every employee is able to perform their job safely every single day."
The Safe Supervisor Program was first introduced at Hydro Ottawa in 2011. It provides extensive hands-on training to new supervisors in safety audits, field and equipment inspections, incident investigations and other safety-related activities. Just this past May, Hydro Ottawa was recognized by the CSSE with a Chapter Award for the same program.
"Specialized safety training programs like this help to cement our innovative and safety-oriented culture, which continues to be recognized by our industry and peers," said Conrad.
Hydro Ottawa is committed to ensuring that safety is considered in every aspect of its operations. The Safe Supervisor Program compliments other initiatives that provide proper training to new supervisors.
