OTTAWA, Aug. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa today showed its support for Capital Pride Week with a rainbow Pride flag raising ceremony at its main office on Albion Road North. The company will also raise flags at its three other office locations across the city today, including Bank Street, Merivale Road and Maple Grove Road.
"These flags serve as a reminder of inclusion throughout the week, and as a symbol of pride in the diversity present throughout our company," says Bryce Conrad, President and CEO of Hydro Ottawa.
Capital Pride is an important initiative in Hydro Ottawa's developing Diversity Plan. Aligned with the company's 2012-2016 Strategic Direction, a Diversity Working Group was assembled by employee volunteers that will drive numerous diversity initiatives through to 2016.
"Our participation in Capital Pride reflects Hydro Ottawa's support of the LGBT community, and honours the diversity of our customers, colleagues, friends and family members," says Conrad. "Having a workforce that is inclusive and supportive of the diversity in our community is crucial to our ongoing success as an organization. I can't think of a better initiative to highlight the depth of our commitment to being an inclusive employer and corporate citizen."
"The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has a long and celebrated history of supporting fair and equitable working conditions for all our members," says Barry Brown, Business Manager/Financial Secretary for IBEW Local Union 636. "We applaud Hydro Ottawa for recognizing and celebrating the diverse workforce that makes up our local union by participating in Capital Pride."
Watch for the company in the Capital Pride Parade on Sunday, August 25th, and for its Conservation and Demand Management team at the Pride Info Fair on the festival grounds. Employees and their families will walk in the parade behind a banner that reads, Powering All Communities, a theme, says Conrad, which illustrates perfectly the company's appreciation of the diversity of the customers we serve.
