OTTAWA, Oct. 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Hydro Ottawa has received reports of suspicious callers claiming to be representatives of Hydro Ottawa threatening customers with disconnection of electrical service unless they provide payment by pre-paid debit card, credit card or wire transfer.
Hydro Ottawa is not associated with this unidentified company, and does not phone customers to solicit payment in the form of pre-paid debit card or wire transfer.
Hydro Ottawa encourages Ottawa residents to be cautious. Should they receive a suspicious call from a 1-800 phone number claiming to be from Hydro Ottawa, they should ask for the caller's identification and call us at 613-738-6400 to verify the legitimacy of the call.
If customers have given financial information to a suspicious caller, they are advised to contact the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222 ext. 5433.
