MONTRÉAL, April 17, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Hydro-Québec encourages riverside residents to be particularly vigilant with respect to rising water levels. Many rivers, including the Outaouais, Gatineau, des Mille-Îles and Saint-Maurice, may experience drastic increases in water levels in coming days. Rainfalls expected over the weekend will add to already high water levels resulting from melting snow. The spring flooding expected could be particularly intense during the coming days and weeks.
Over the past months, Hydro-Québec has been lowering water levels in certain reservoirs, mainly the Dozois, Baskatong, Cabonga and Gouin, to absorb part of the upcoming spring flooding. Hydro-Québec will continue to use its reservoirs to limit the impacts of the 2019 spring flooding.
Hydro-Québec is working together with the Organisation de la sécurité civile du Québec. We are monitoring rising water levels closely. We ask that residents living in flood-prone zones contact their municipalities to find out more about preventive measures that may be taken.
