Hydro-Québec thanks its customers for their contribution during the public appeal to reduce consumption

MONTREAL, Jan. 24, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Hydro-Québec sincerely thanks its customers for their valued contribution during this period of intense cold. We would also like to thank media representatives for their cooperation. Following our appeal to the public these past few days, the efforts of Hydro-Québec's customers have helped reduce electricity consumption during morning peak hours by about 600 MW, equivalent to the consumption of 120,000 homes.

Although tonight's consumption forecast is lower and the extreme cold is starting to subside, Hydro-Québec would like to remind the public that using electricity wisely is always a good idea, all year long.

Electricity needs reached an unprecedented 39,120 MW (unofficial) on Wednesday evening. At the time of this record peak, the outdoor temperature was -23 degrees Celsius in Montréal and -24 degrees Celsius in the city of Québec.
