MONTRÉAL, June 8, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Hydro-Québec has announced a move to attract data centres to Québec. The decision is in line with one of the objectives outlined in its Strategic Plan 2016‑2020, namely to lay the groundwork to double the company's revenue over the next 15 years.
"The global data centre market is rapidly growing and we have what it takes to be at the forefront of this trend. We have clean, available energy, very competitive rates and a climate that enables reduced energy consumption," noted Éric Martel, President and CEO of Hydro-Québec.
Specifically, Hydro-Québec will offer investors:
- Highly competitive rates, including the Economic Development Rate (EDR)
- A portfolio of appropriate sites, representing over 25 million square feet and located in strategic areas
- Support to get projects up and running quickly
- Energy efficiency expertise to help reduce energy consumption
Major companies have recently invested in Québec to set up their data centres, including Microsoft, Ericsson, Amazon and OVH. Hydro-Québec's clean, affordable energy was a deciding factor in their choice.
