HOBART, AUSTRALIA, Nov. 19, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) and Hydro Tasmania, Australia's largest generator of renewable energy and largest water manager, announced today that they have extended their partnership for an additional two years. CGI will continue to provide IT services to Hydro Tasmania and support their drive to improve productivity and operational efficiency in Australia's highly competitive National Energy Market.
Hydro Tasmania, which is owned by the Tasmanian State Government, extended the partnership with CGI for infrastructure and network services, end-user computing services as well as application and database services. CGI will also continue to support Hydro Tasmania's National Energy Market (NEM) application, a 24x7 business-critical system which allows it to trade energy across the majority of states in Australia.
"Tasmania has the competitive advantage of being the nation's renewable energy powerhouse but it is important for us to manage risks and improve efficiencies in the highly competitive National Electricity Market, given the current challenges facing the industry across the country. To date, our partnership with CGI has enabled us to focus on our core business and positions us well for leaner financial times ahead," said Luke Stow, Chief Information Officer at Hydro Tasmania.
"We began our relationship with Hydro Tasmania with an office of 25 people and through this partnership we have grown to over 85 members at CGI's office in Hobart", said Colin Holgate, President of CGI in Asia Pacific. "Our teams work in tandem, supported by our global delivery colleagues in India and the Philippines. CGI looks forward to redoubling our efforts to help Hydro Tasmania gain efficiencies and support their continued growth in the Australian market place."
CGI is a leading IT services provider to the utilities industry in Australia and services the majority of electricity distributors in the country. As a partner to 8 of the 10 largest utilities across Europe and North America and with over 6,000 professionals dedicated to the industry globally, CGI has designed and built 11 of the 17 central energy market systems in the world today.
