TORONTO, March 22, 2017 /CNW/ - The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)/Toronto has chosen Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) CEO Andy Byford as Communicator of the Year (COTY) for 2016, by unanimous decision. Mr. Byford has transformed the TTC by embracing a culture of open and transparent communication with employees, customers and media.
Whether he's personally writing a newspaper column, fronting customer focused videos or producing a vlog for a diverse workforce, Mr. Byford is accessible, transparent, open and honest. He leads by example and encourages both customers and employees to ask questions and share experiences – all hallmarks of a great communicator.
"Mr. Byford has demonstrated a commitment to keeping his staff and the public informed," said Jacqui d'Eon, a past IABC/Toronto board member and 2016 COTY judge. "He does not shy away from delivering difficult messages and accepting responsibility for issues."
"I am truly honoured and grateful to win this most prestigious award which I dedicate to the 14,000 men and women of the TTC," said CEO Andy Byford. "Our great company is always in the spotlight, making the need for clear, concise communications an essential part of our work as we modernize the TTC and keep Toronto moving."
