IBA Green Inc. Announces 300 Public Interest Groups Enter Coal Ash Control Battle
SYMBOL OTCBB: PIEX
NEWPORT BEACH, CA, Sept. 19, 2012 /CNW/ - IBA Green, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Pioneer Exploration Inc. (PIEX) is pleased to announce more than 300 public interest groups representing millions of people from all 50 states sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Friday opposing S.3512, the "Coal Ash Recycling and Oversight Act of 2012".
Coal ash, the by-product of burning coal, contains toxic heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead and mercury. Billions of tons of this toxic waste are stored in unlined ponds, landfills and mines in almost every state.
Attorney Lisa Evans with the nonprofit environmental law firm Earthjustice said, "This letter demonstrates the immense nationwide support for health protections from toxic ash. It's a shame our elected officials are standing in the way of clean water and air for millions of Americans. This coal ash bill puts thousands of American communities at risk and forces the EPA to stop doing its job."
In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency added 12 hazardous waste sites to the list of the most-contaminated places in the United States on Friday, clearing the way for major cleanups to rid the sites of dangerous toxins.
Arsenic, lead and mercury were among a long list of toxins found at the sites — mostly former factories, chemical plants and contaminated water plumes. Investigators also found elements like benzene, copper and chromium, plus harmful chemicals associated with pesticides and industrial solvents.
"This is potentially great news for the company's process to treat and convert IBA into viable and environmentally responsible construction materials," said Angelo Scola, Chairman of the Board of IBA Green. "The treated IBA can produce a geoploymer concrete that not only meets all EPA and ASTM standards, but also makes a concrete that is far stronger and lasts twice as long as concrete used today in the building of highways and bridges", explains Mr. Scola.
The IBA Technology was specifically developed to address coal ash and incinerator bottom ash (IBA), which is the resulting residue that is created after the combustion process of burning coal or solid waste to generate electric power. Currently, there are approximately 600 coal burning and 85 waste to energy electric power plants across the USA creating an aggregate 85 million tons of toxic coal ash or IBA annually.
