IBC Top 10: Things to do while spring cleaning

TORONTO, April 2, 2015 /CNW/ - Spring is here, and Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) offers its Top 10 things for what to include on your spring cleaning list.

"Every spring, my family and I tackle our to-do lists around the house," said Ralph Palumbo, Vice-President, Ontario, IBC. "By completing the items in the list below, you can help ensure the safety of your loved ones and property throughout the summer months."

IBC's Top 10 tips for what to include in your spring cleaning are:

1. Check and maintain your smoke detectors.
2. Install or check your CO detectors.
3. Clear any leftover snow away from your house, especially any near basement windows and doorways.
4. Check your property for obstructions that could prevent water from draining away from your house.
5. Review your family's emergency plan.
6. Update your emergency kit.
7. Check your car's lights, signals, tires and fluids.
8. Examine your windshield wipers; you may need to change them if the winter weather has damaged them.
9. Update your home inventory.
10. Review your insurance policies.
