ST. STEPHEN, NB, Sept. 11, 2017 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and New Brunswick recognize the key role of tourism infrastructure in encouraging local economic development, creating dynamic communities and protecting Canada's diverse heritage.
Today, New Brunswick Premier, the Honourable Brian Gallant, Karen Ludwig, Member of Parliament for New Brunswick Southwest, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Allan MacEachern, Mayor of St. Stephen, announced over $1.1 million funding to restore an important tourist attraction and gathering place in St. Stephen.
The St. Stephen wharf restoration project comprises the installation of new floating docks, an updated gangway and approach area as well as an adjacent boat launch ramp. Along with additional lighting and improved signage, these upgrades will make the location safer for visitors.
The restored site will benefit local businesses by attracting more people to the downtown area and ensure this historic landmark on the St. Croix River remains an important symbol of the community of St. Stephen for decades to come.
