IESO Extends Public Appeal to Reduce Electricity Use in Toronto
TORONTO, July 12, 2013 /CNW/ - The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is extending the public appeal to reduce electricity use in Toronto as Hydro One continues to work to restore full service to the major transmission facilities affected by Monday's storm. Conservation efforts can help relieve strain on the system while this work is underway.
Consumers can reduce the demands on the electricity system by:
- Turning off all but essential internal and external lights;
- Setting air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius or higher, or use fans as an alternative;
- Closing curtains and blinds to keep out the sun and retain cooler air inside; and
- Limiting the use of major power-consuming equipment such as dishwashers, washers and dryers and swimming pool pumps.
The IESO is responsible for managing the reliability of Ontario's bulk electricity system and operating the wholesale electricity market. For more information, visit www.ieso.ca.
