WHITBY, Ontario, June 11, 2013 /CNW/ - CBC Dragon's Den Bruce Croxon will help host the Ignite Finale showcasing Durham businesses in two weeks, June 25, at the Regent Theater. After a six month competition of over 100 hungry start-up entrepreneurs, two companies will be showcased following $25,000 seed funding from Ignite and Durham Region economic developers. Tickets are available at http://www.ignitedurham.ca
Croxon will also be featured on a webinar by 360incentives www.360incentives.com, located in Whitby, on June 20, five days prior to Ignite. https://www4.gotomeeting.com/register/928071759
High-powered Venture Capitalists including OMERS Howard Gwin, inventor Wayne Conrad and founder and CEO of Search Engine People Inc. Jeff Quipp will share insights on a "Power Panel."
Attendees and competitors will also hear from keynote speaker Tim Ferriss, who is an internationally-renowned entrepreneur and the author of the bestseller The 4-Hour Work Week. Ferriss will speak about his passionate belief that entrepreneurship is a tool for world change and ideal lifestyle design. All guests will receive his latest book The 4-Hour Chef.
The Ignite competition started with 102 bright, new business applicants in January. The Durham Region is pushing to spark entrepreneurial innovation. Ignite's Power Panel of top Canadian entrepreneurs like Jason Atkins of 360incentives, recently funded by OMERS venture capital and Chairman Gwin, will provide entrepreneurship feedback.
Atkins said, "The Ignite program is a celebration of local start-ups sure to inspire future Durham Region entrepreneurs. I founded my company here for the great talent pool, the support of the local economic development group and to enjoy a better lifestyle."
CBC Dragon, Bruce Croxon, will engage in a lively discussion about how entrepreneurship and innovation can help further transform the region.
The two Ignite finalists, Mobile X Co., and Squabble Studios, are about to graduate from Start Up Boot Camp, ready to take their local tech companies to global scale. The finale caps six months of hard work as these start-ups reveal new customers and new deals they have closed.
"This event is going to be a recognition of the best Durham Region has to offer. The Cocktail Reception and after Street Party will toast our talented entrepreneurs with a local food, drink and culture experience," said Kerri King, Tourism Manager, Regional Municipality of Durham.
Tickets are available now but selling-out fast. For more information, contact Ms. King at the Regional Municipality.
