IKEA's first customer distribution centre in Western Canada makes shopping
experience easier and more convenient through shorter delivery lead times
BURLINGTON, ON, Sept. 10, 2018 /CNW/ - IKEA is pleased to announce the grand opening of its new 330,540 square foot Vancouver Customer Distribution Centre, located at 7031 York Road, in Richmond, British Columbia. The new location is IKEA's first customer distribution facility in Western Canada and will further enable IKEA to have its products in the right place, closer to its customers, while also providing increased capacity for future growth.
"Today's opening is an important step as IKEA Canada continues its transformation journey to become the leading multichannel home furnishings retailer," said Marsha Smith, President, IKEA Canada. "By optimizing our distribution networks, we ensure IKEA is fit for long-term growth, delivering a more enjoyable and convenient shopping experience for our customers in Western Canada, both today and in the future."
The Vancouver Customer Distribution Centre will fulfil IKEA Canada's Richmond, Coquitlam, Calgary and Edmonton stores, its Collection Points in Nanaimo, Victoria and Kelowna, home deliveries throughout the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, as well as more than half of home deliveries in the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Markets served by the new centre will see significantly shorter delivery lead times.
Working at IKEA is inspiring, fun and fast-paced and career opportunities are endless. The new Customer Distribution Centre is home to approximately 100 new co-workers, in a variety of functions including logistics, human resources, safety and security and operations. All co-workers will receive IKEA's total rewards package including a Group RRSP, performance-driven bonus program, medical and dental benefits, a co-worker discount, TACK! loyalty program and more.
IKEA wants to have a positive impact on people and the planet. Opening this new distribution location in the Vancouver area brings the retailer closer to the customer, reducing transport distances and emissions. IKEA has also made the bold commitment globally to have 25 per cent electric or zero emission vehicles by 2020 and 100 per cent by 2025.
The new Vancouver location is IKEA's third customer distribution centre in Canada. The retailer also operates facilities in the Montreal and Toronto areas.
