IKEA Canada Lights the Way with Solar Panel Installations
~ First Canadian retailer to exclusively own, install and operate the largest solar
rooftop installation under Ontario's Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program ~
TORONTO, Oct 4 /CNW/ - On October 7, 2010, IKEA Canada will be announcing an initiative that will make the leading home furnishings company the first retailer to exclusively own, install and operate the largest rooftop solar networks in Ontario under the Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program. With this initiative IKEA Canada will currently own the largest rooftop solar installation by a retailer in Canada. The company is making a $4.6 million capital investment to outfit the rooftops with solar panels at three of its Ontario locations - Etobicoke, North York and Vaughan. The solar panels will be installed and fully operational before the end of the calendar year.
The solar initiative is one example of many longstanding commitments to social and environmental responsibility - as communicated through their global sustainability program, the NEVER ENDING list. This project supports the Green Energy Act's aim of fostering the generation of clean and renewable sources of electricity in the province.
