Making IKEA more accessible to Canadians
BURLINGTON, ON, Dec. 2, 2015 /CNW/ - IKEA Canada announced today that the Pick-Up and Order Point in London, Ontario, located at 3198 Wonderland Road South, is now officially open to the public. The 1844 square metre (19,848 square feet) location allows customers who have shopped online or at an IKEA store to pick up their products closer to where they live. Customers are also able to place orders at the Pick-Up and Order Point, have access to services to support their purchases, sit at a computer station to browse the range, as well as being able to purchase 99 of IKEA's most popular items available for immediate takeaway. IKEA's Pick-Up and Order Point in London is now the second location of its kind open for business, next to Québec City's which opened yesterday.
IKEA currently has 12 stores across Canada, an eCommerce virtual store, two Pick-Up and Order Point locations in Quebec City and London, Ontario, as well recently announcing Pick-Up and Order Points in Kitchener, St. Catharines, Whitby and Windsor, Ontario. The company sees growth potential in opening Pick-Up and Order Points, whose format is part of a global test pilot in markets where there are currently no stores, and will ensure IKEA is accessible to more people, faster.
"IKEA's growth through Pick-Up and Order Points in Canada is a crucial part of our business and allows Canadians easier access to our products," said Stefan Sjöstrand, President, IKEA Canada. "The Pick-Up and Order Points are allowing IKEA to expand quickly into markets that have been identified as having potential, resulting in IKEA becoming more accessible to Canadians."
London consumers now have the opportunity to interact with the IKEA brand in smart, new and convenient ways. The Pick-Up and Order Point location, which is one-tenth the size of a store, will reduce delivery times and costs for customers at the same time as delivering inspiration and services. The location features a home furnishing inspiration area as well as stations to support customers with their planning process.
"It's an exciting day - Londoners have been looking forward to this possibility for decades. We are all so pleased to officially welcoming IKEA to our community. I offer my thanks to IKEA for choosing London and to Vito Frijia and his team at Southside group for working so hard to make this happen." Said Mayor Matt Brown "The fact that this is one of the first ever Pick-Up–Point in Canada should not go unnoticed. London has been a market where new ideas have been introduced before and we continue to be innovative today."
IKEA has hired 25 co-workers to support the new Pick-Up and Order Point. Co-workers have been welcomed into an engaging environment with a strong focus on people and their professional growth.
