BURLINGTON, ON, Oct. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - IKEA Canada announced today that they have selected Whitby, Ontario for their latest Pick-Up and Order Point at 1650 Victoria Street East. The location, slated to open in spring 2016, will allow customers who have shopped online or at an IKEA store to pick up their products closer to where they live.
IKEA currently has 12 stores across Canada, two Pick-Up and Order Point locations under construction in Quebec City and London, Ontario, as well as a recently announced Pick-Up and Order Point in St. Catharines, Ontario. The company sees growth potential in opening Pick-Up and Order Points, whose format is part of a global test pilot in markets where there are currently no stores, and will ensure IKEA is accessible to more people, faster.
"The new Pick-Up and Order Points are designed to make shopping with IKEA more accessible to Canadians" said Stefan Sjöstrand, President, IKEA Canada. "We hope that by reducing shipping times and expanding to areas which don't currently have a full-service store, we can make the shopping experience even more seamless for our customers."
Consumers will now have the opportunity to interact with the IKEA brand in smart, new and convenient ways. The Whitby Pick-Up and Order Point location will reduce delivery times and costs for customers at the same time as delivering design ideas and services.
The new location will feature a home furnishing inspiration area as well as stations to support customers with their planning process. Additionally, customers will be able to buy services to support their purchases and sit at a computer station to browse and make online purchases from www.IKEA.ca.
"Whitby is a natural next choice for us as we continue to expand across Canada with our new Pick-Up and Order Points." continues Sjöstrand. "We look forward to engaging with the Whitby community in a more direct way and creating new jobs for local residents."
"I welcome IKEA and thank them for choosing Whitby," said Mayor Don Mitchell, Town of Whitby. "IKEA is a strong, playful brand that will fit in well here and I know will be welcomed by our residents."
IKEA will be hiring roughly 30-35 co-workers to support the new Pick-Up-Point in Whitby, ON. Co-workers will be welcomed into an engaging environment with a strong focus on people and their professional growth.
