Yale University professor Timothy Snyder to share insights on how 20th century history can inform the present, February 7th.
TORONTO, Jan. 26, 2017 /CNW/ - On February 7, The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education at Ryerson University is pleased to welcome Timothy Snyder, Professor of History at Yale University and author of Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin and Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning. Also a member of the esteemed Council on Foreign Relations, Professor Snyder will offer lessons from the darkest moments of history that could be applicable today in a lunchtime talk entitled "Can history save us from ourselves? Reflections on the decline of liberal democracy."
"It is critically important that we continue learning and engaging in dialogue about what we see in society around us," says Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, Dean, The Chang School and former Ontario cabinet minister. "Professor Snyder's talk could not be more timely as we reflect on the current state of democracy and how to protect it."
The event is an installment of the third annual ChangSchoolTalks2017, a series of talks that brings together thought-provoking leaders, industry pioneers, and hundreds of participants from various industries for the opportunity to foster active learning, relationship building and idea exchange. The theme of this year's ChangSchoolTalks is 2030 Vision: Exploring the Past and Imagining the Future.
