"In the city, I do P2P car sharing": Communauto and La Capitale work together
to redefine the concept of carsharing
QUEBEC, July 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Communauto will soon begin testing a new type of service that will allow car owners to lessen the environmental and economic impact of owning a vehicle. This service, called "Peer-to-Peer Car Sharing" (P2P), will allow car owners to share the vehicle by making them available to Communauto subscribers. In exchange, participating car owners will be paid a daily fee, as well as a fee per kilometre travelled by Communauto subscribers. These payments could entirely cover the monthly costs required in owning a vehicle. Car owners will also profit from peace of mind knowing that they are adequately covered for an accident and that their insurance premiums will be unaffected. During the next few weeks, Communauto will finalize the remaining feasibility details in order to launch a pilot project at the end of summer 2010, in collaboration with La Capitale General Insurance, an important partner for more than 15 years.
For Benoît Robert, CEO and founder of Communauto, the deployment of this service is the realization of a dream held for over a decade. "An average car is on the road for less than 5% of the time. With P2P, we will enable car owners to make their car ownership profitable, all while helping their community. P2P will allow us to reduce the number of vehicles on the road while improving the availability of this type of transportation." Moreover, these vehicles will be added to Communauto's network of self-service cars already available to subscribers.
"This is not La Capitale General Insurance's first experience with supporting innovative and sustainable ventures," notes Sylvain Simard, Vice-President of Business Development. "La Capitale has been a proud partner of Communauto since its very inception. As such, it was our honour this autumn to be awarded the Claire Morissette Prize by Communauto during the gala to celebrate their 15 years in business."
The Claire Morissette Prize is awarded annually by Communauto to a key partner to recognize their contribution to the mission of reducing automobile use.
