During the postal disruption at Canada Post, you can get your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) benefit payments through direct deposit and pay your taxes online. Our secure digital services are fast and easy, and allow you to manage your tax affairs online.
Even during a postal disruption, you are still required to make every effort to submit your payments on time to the CRA. There are many alternate payment options that allow you to send a payment to the CRA online. To learn more about ways to pay the CRA, go to canada.ca/payments.
How to sign up for direct deposit
Online
My Account can help you quickly and easily manage your tax affairs online, including signing up for direct deposit or updating your account information. If you are already registered for My Account, and have entered your CRA security code, you have full access and can sign up for direct deposit immediately. New registrants who have not yet received their security code in the mail will still have limited access to the service until they receive their code.
You can also register for online mail to receive and access your CRA correspondence online.
Online—mobile applications
You can use MyCRA from your mobile device to start or update your direct deposit information. Like My Account, you will need your CRA security code in order to access this feature of the app.
Through your Financial Institution
Desjardins members and TD Canada Trust customers can now sign up for direct deposit through their financial institution.
By phone
To sign up for direct deposit or to change your account information, call 1-800-959-8281. You will need your:
- Social Insurance Number (SIN);
- Full name and current address, including postal code;
- Date of birth;
- Most recent assessed income tax and benefit return and information about the most recent payments you got from the Canada Revenue Agency; and
- Banking information: three-digit financial institution number, five-digit transit number, and your account number. These numbers are found at the bottom of a cheque, or on a monthly bank statement.
