Industry leaders David Gonzales and John McCausland join Avison Young in San Francisco
Highly-regarded industry veterans to lead project management initiatives in Northern California; Gonzales becomes Principal
SAN FRANCISCO, July 1, 2013 /CNW/ - Nick Slonek, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the company's Northern California region, announced today that David Gonzales and John McCausland have joined Avison Young in San Francisco.
Effective immediately, Gonzales joins Avison Young as a Principal and Managing Director of project management in the Northern California region. He will lead the construction management and project management initiatives for the Northern California region, under the direction of Slonek.
McCausland joins Avison Young as a Senior Project Manager and will work closely with Gonzales to grow the construction management and project management business lines in the region. Both Gonzales and McCausland were most recently with CBRE in San Francisco.
"Having Dave join Avison Young continues to substantiate our commitment to build out our full-service client model in the region," comments Slonek. "Now that our San Francisco office is also in the project management business, our region is able to offer leasing, property management, project management and consultation services. We are also actively pursuing several Bay Area investment sales teams to form a capital markets group. Dave and his colleague John McCausland have already introduced Avison Young to several strategic clients and projects. Dave and John are best-in-class service providers and will be an integral part of our client-focused platform. We are thrilled to have such tenured professionals join our Avison Young family."
With 34 years of experience in real estate development and project/construction management, Gonzales has successfully directed projects in excess of 1 billion square feet across the U.S. His expertise includes all phases of the development and construction process, including strategic planning, site selection, entitlements and project management. His additional skills encompass facility due diligence studies, design and construction, contract negotiations and administration.
Prior to joining Avison Young, Gonzales was the Managing Director of Project Management for Northern California, Sacramento and Reno for CBRE. While at CBRE, Gonzales managed 125 staff members and $2.2 billion in total project costs during a 10-year period. Gonzales was also the founder of CMG8, LLC, a development and project management company in San Francisco, where he was responsible for providing third-party consulting services for development and project management services on behalf of clients in the commercial sectors nationally. Gonzales is a member of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA)-San Francisco chapter, Design IIC, and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Affiliate Corporation.
"The ongoing, aggressive growth of Avison Young throughout North America has been very exciting to watch," says Gonzales. "I am excited to become a Principal of Avison Young, and was drawn to the firm's Principal-led culture and client-first approach. The company is powered by its Principal ownership, whereby the client, the execution team and the shareholders are completely aligned. I look forward to contributing to the company's ongoing success."
With 37 years of experience in the construction management and property management business lines, McCausland is well qualified to oversee a multitude of project types. He was most recently a Senior Project Manager with CBRE where, between 2000 and 2013, he managed projects at Mt. Diablo Plaza - a 320,000-square-foot (sf) class A office project with a 200,000-sf parking structure in Walnut Creek, CA; and successfully assisted in the award of the project management contract for the 225,000-sf Fresenius West Region Campus project in Walnut Creek.
