Infrastructure and Highways Leader Dan Saville Joins Arup's Toronto Office
TORONTO, Feb. 7, 2014 /CNW/ - Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced today that Dan Saville has transferred to the Toronto office as a principal and infrastructure practice leader. Dan will guide the infrastructure and site development practice, and will be responsible for the planning, design and construction of infrastructure projects throughout Canada.
Dan relocated from the United Kingdom (UK) where he was a Director of Arup based in their Cardiff office and acted as the highways and civil engineering lead for Arup's West region covering Bristol, Cardiff and Belfast. In that position, he was responsible for developing the transportation business in the UK. Dan began his engineering career at Arup in 1990.
"Dan's appointment is part of Arup's continuing commitment to building a strong and competitive Canadian business across many sectors," said Andrew McAlpine, principal at Arup's Toronto office. "Arup has steadily grown the capacity to deliver a wide variety of significant and complex projects throughout Canada, and infrastructure is a particularly important market where Arup's experience and programmatic approach will bring high value to Canadian clients. Dan's involvement will fortify these efforts."
In the UK, Dan organized and delivered major highway projects including the $1.5B M4 Motorway Study in South Wales and the A5 Western Transport Corridor in Northern Ireland where he led Arup's foray into the successful bid and design delivery of a $200M section of the proposed road.
"The infrastructure market is growing steadily in Canada and I am very excited about the opportunity to use what I have learned across Europe to help Canada build the infrastructure and business structures they need to meet the demands of today's marketplace," commented Dan. "Delivering steadfast and excellent work to our clients will be a top priority of mine."
The assignment of Dan further strengthens Arup's infrastructure engineering practice in Toronto and across Canada. Arup's Canadian portfolio currently includes York University and Vaughan Corporate Centre Subway Stations on the Spadina Line extension, the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Pedestrian Tunnel, and the newly awarded design for the New Bridge over the St. Lawrence in Montreal.
Dan holds a bachelor's of science degree in civil and structural engineering from Cardiff University and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. Dan began this position on January 6, 2014.
