Inquest into the death of Alwy Al-Nadhir postponed

TORONTO , Dec. 9 /CNW/ - Dr. James Edwards , Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that the inquest into the death of Alwy Al-Nadhir has been postponed.

Mr. Al-Nadhir, 18, died on October 31, 2007 , at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto after being shot by Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Al-Nadhir's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest was originally scheduled to begin on December 7, 2009 . A new date has not yet been determined.

Dr. David Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Rebecca Edward will be counsel to the coroner.
