Inquest into the death of Chum Yim announced

TORONTO, Feb. 26 /CNW/ - Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Chum Yim.
Mr. Yim, 31, died on November 18, 2007, after being taken into custody by officers of the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Yim's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last approximately two weeks.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Toronto Coroners Courts, 15 Grosvenor Street. Dr. Bonnie Burke will preside as inquest coroner and Mr. Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
