Dr. Roger Skinner
, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of
Douglas Michie
.
Mr. Michie
, 39, died on
December 15, 2008
, while in custody at the Regional Treatment Centre of the Kingston Penitentiary. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding
Mr. Michie
's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last one day.
The inquest will begin at
9:30 a.m.
on
Friday, February 19, 2010
, at the
Portsmouth
Olympic Harbour Complex, 53 Yonge Street, Kingston.
Dr. Ross McIlquham
will preside as inquest coroner and
Ms. Priscilla Christie
will be counsel to the coroner.
