Inquest into the death of Edmond Mallette announced

KINGSTON, ON, March 5 /CNW/ - Dr. Roger Skinner, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Edmond Mallette.
Mr. Mallette, 67, died on May 2, 2007, at the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital following a transfer from the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Mallette's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last one day.
The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, 11th Floor, Hearing Room 2, 160 Elgin Street, Ottawa. Dr. Gordon Watt will preside as inquest coroner and Mr. Tim Wightman will be counsel to the coroner.
