Inquest into the death of Evelina Atkinson announced

HAMILTON, ON, May 7 /CNW/ - Dr. Jack Stanborough, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Hamilton Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Evelina Atkinson.
Ms. Atkinson, 51, died on January 11, 2009, at St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener while in police custody. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Ms. Atkinson's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last two days and will hear from approximately six witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Superior Court of Justice, 20 Weber Street East, Kitchener. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Margaret Janzen will be counsel to the coroner.
