Institute of Corporate Directors announces appointment of new President and
CEO
TORONTO, March 25 /CNW/ - Wayne McLeod, FCA, Chair of the Board of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), announced today that Stan Magidson, LL M, ICD.D has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 2010.
The announcement was made today following approval by the Board earlier this week. The appointment is for a three-year term with Stan succeeding Beverly Topping, ICD.D who has led the ICD for the past seven years.
"We conducted an extensive national search and were fortunate to have considered exceptionally strong and distinguished candidates," said Wayne McLeod, Chair of the Board of the ICD. "The Search Committee knew that it had to find a candidate with deep credibility in governance, exceptional leadership abilities, and the strategic vision required to build on the ICD's strong reputation and accomplishments. Stan brings to the role this experience as well as a long-standing commitment to ICD's mission."
Stan is a partner in the Calgary office of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, heading up Osler's business law practice in Western Canada. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and corporate finance matters and has been with Oslers since 1986. In 1999, he was seconded to the Ontario Securities Commission where he built the team that is primarily responsible for the securities regulation of take-over bids and M&A transactions in Canada. Stan is actively involved in the policy implications of securities regulation as well as director education. He is the former Chair of the Securities Advisory Committee to the Alberta Securities Commission, is Chair of the Calgary Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors and teaches a mergers and acquisitions class in the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program at leading business schools across Canada where he has been recognized as "Teacher of the Year". Stan was born and raised in Ottawa, attended the University of Ottawa and New York University School of Law, and has lived in Toronto, New York and Calgary.

A committed volunteer, Stan has been involved with the ICD since 2003. He is a graduate of the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program and has received his ICD.D designation. He has also served on the Board of Junior Achievement, Southern Alberta and as Chair of the Securities Advisory Committee of the Alberta Securities Commission. He is an experienced public speaker and author, and is a regular commentator with media on corporate governance, M&A and related matters.
