TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) is pleased to welcome six new members to its Board of Directors: Gerald Grandey, John Irving, Frances Lankin, Stan Magidson, Sarah Raiss, and Jo Mark Zurel.
"As an organization dedicated to promoting the effectiveness of directors and boards in Canada, it is important that the ICD have a sound governance structure and a strong board of directors," says Donna Soble Kaufman, Chair of the ICD Board. "The outstanding combination of experience, skills and diversity on the board will most certainly add tremendous value to the organization."
Gerald Grandey
Mr. Grandey currently serves on the Boards of Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan, Canadian Oil Sands, Inmet Mining, Sandspring Resources Ltd., the Saskatoon Chapters of the YMCA and Junior Achievement, Persephone Theatre, the Dean's Advisory Council for the Edwards School of Business, and the Board of Governors of the Colorado School of Mines. In 2011, he retired after nine years as CEO of Cameco Corporation.
John K. F. Irving
Mr. Irving has been active within the Irving Group of companies since 1983 and is currently the President of Ocean Capital Investments Limited, which owns companies active in a number of business areas including real estate, radio broadcasting, construction and building materials. He is currently a director of Irving Oil Limited and has served as Chair of the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation (2005 to 2007) and Chair of the Atlantic Institute of Market Studies (2007 to 2010).
Hon. Frances Lankin, P.C., C.M., LLD (HC)
Ms. Lankin is the former President and CEO of United Way Toronto. She was the Member of Provincial Parliament for Beaches-East York from 1990 to 2001 and held posts as provincial Minister of Government Services, Chair of Management Board, Minister of Health and Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
Stan Magidson, LL.M., ICD.D
Mr. Magidson is the President and CEO of the Institute of Corporate Directors and currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Weizmann Canada and the Canadian Foundation for Governance Research (CFGR). He was a partner in the law firm, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and is a former director of Junior Achievement, Southern Alberta.
Sarah Raiss, ICD.D
Ms. Raiss currently serves on the Boards of Shoppers Drug Mart, Commercial Metals Company, Canadian Oil Sands, and is President of the Calgary Petroleum Club and Chairs the Alberta Electric System Operator. From 1999 until 2011, she was with TransCanada Corporation, where she most recently was Executive Vice President of Corporate Services.
Jo Mark Zurel, CA
Mr. Zurel is President of Stonebridge Capital, Chair of Newfoundland Power Inc. and a director of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Major Drilling and Highland Resources Inc. He served as a director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Fronteer Development Group until its sale to Newmont in 2011.
Retiring from the ICD Board are Rob Brouwer, George Cooper, David Forster, and Michael Ledgett. The ICD wishes to thank them for the time and expertise that they so generously dedicated to strengthening the organization.
