TORONTO, June 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Interac Association and Retail Council of Canada (RCC) are pleased to announce the top recipient of the 2015 Retail as a Career Scholarship Program, an initiative that honours students working in retail who are entering or enrolled in a retail-related program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
Nathan Froese, currently enrolled in the Retail Management Certificate Program at Ryerson University, is our recipient of the $5,000 Retail as a Career Scholarship, funded by Interac Association.
"Interac Association is thrilled to partner with Retail Council of Canada again, continuing our support of the Retail as a Career Scholarship Program," said Mark O'Connell, CEO & President, Interac Association. "Interac Association extends our congratulations to Nathan on his winning submission. We wish him all the best in his education and future career in retail."
Froese was also one of 19 post-secondary students from across the country awarded a $1,000 retail scholarship. Scholarships were awarded at the Excellence in Retailing Awards Gala Dinner in Toronto – as part of Retail Council of Canada's STORE 2015 Conference.
Now in its twelfth year, RCC's Retail as a Career Scholarship Program has awarded almost $700,000 in scholarships and award benefits to students from across Canada who demonstrated a strong commitment to the future of retail. Applicants were judged by retail industry experts in three categories: academic performance, professional references and a personal essay highlighting their experiences and education in the retail industry. The Retail as a Career Scholarship Program continues to grow each year, both in the number of applicants and in the number of retailers/ industry partners who provide the additional funding needed to increase the number of scholarships available.
"We thank Interac Association for its ongoing support of this important program. Their generous contribution will help Nathan in his pursuit of a career in Canada's dynamic retail industry," said Diane J. Brisebois, President & CEO, Retail Council of Canada. "I also want to thank all of the sponsors of the scholarship program: your assistance enables Retail Council of Canada to celebrate and support Canada's future retail leaders."
