Interac Flash contactless debit technology to be accepted at participating Esso stations in Canada
TORONTO, Aug. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - Interac Association announced today that Imperial Oil has committed to roll out Interac Flash enabled readers at participating Esso-branded retail stores in Canada. Cardholders will be able to purchase gas or other items by making a contactless debit transaction using Interac Flash. The feature will be available to use inside participating Esso stores.
Imperial Oil will be testing Interac Flash transactions later this year at some Esso stores in Canada, with acceptance at participating Esso sites nationally planned for 2013.
"We are delighted that Imperial Oil will be accepting Interac Flash at participating Esso stations nationwide," said Mark O'Connell, President and CEO, Interac Association and Acxsys Corporation. "Enabling customers to use money from their bank account to pay for gas and other items faster than ever before helps improve the payment experience for both the cardholder and the merchant."
Interac Flash, a contactless enhancement of Interac® Debit, enables cardholders to make a quick, convenient and secure transaction by holding their card in front of the contactless reader at the point-of-sale. There is no need to insert their card or enter a PIN. Interac Flash leverages EMVTM technology and the existing chip debit infrastructure, which protects it from fraud tactics such as copying and electronic pick-pocketing. It provides strong consumer protections and other unique security features that Canadians expect from the Interac brand. Cardholders are protected from unauthorized transactions under the Interac Zero Liability Policy*.
"Imperial Oil is committed to providing customers with innovation that will help improve and simplify the check-out experience," said Andrew Mackay, Retail Manager, Fuels Marketing, Imperial Oil. "Interac Flash will enhance the point-of-sale process by allowing customers to pay for gas, food, beverages and other essential items using their money faster and more conveniently."
"Moneris Solutions, Canada's largest payment card processor, is excited to facilitate the rollout of Interac Flash at participating Esso locations across Canada," said Jeff Guthrie, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Moneris Solutions. "At Moneris, we strive to be a leading provider of high-value innovative payment solutions that drive cost efficiencies for our customers and Interac Flash delivers on all fronts."
With this announcement, Imperial Oil joins a growing list of Canadian merchants who have committed to accept Interac Flash.
