TORONTO, Jan. 30, 2012 /CNW/ - In 2005, the UN General Assembly designated January 27 — the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau — as the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. This year's theme, Children and the Holocaust, is in remembrance of the 1.5 million innocent Jewish children and the tens of thousands of other youths who died during the Holocaust.
"This commemoration must stand as a daily reminder of the consequences of silence and indifference in the face of Antisemitism, persecution and genocide of Jews and other communities", said Ayman Al-Yassini, Executive Director of the CRRF. Through its programs, such as the Education and Training and the Interfaith Project, the CRRF seeks to address and eliminate prejudice and discrimination in Canada by contributing to the development of a shared commitment to human rights and democratic institutions, and the principle of belonging.
