TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - Poker has never been more popular, and now for the first time in Canadian history, the instant thrill of being dealt a winning poker hand is combined with the excitement of a nightly lottery draw for a $100,000 grand prize. Starting on September 7, retail terminals are buzzing with the new lottery game POKER LOTTO that offers both instant in-store wins - of up to $5,000 - and nightly prize draws of up to $100,000 with each $2 ticket.
"POKER LOTTO doubles the fun for lottery players, and you don't have to know how to play poker to enjoy it. The excitement of winning a prize instantly is combined with additional prizes in a nightly draw," said Wendy Montgomery, Vice President of Lottery Marketing at Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
POKER LOTTO will use playing card symbols in the place of numbers. When players purchase a $2 ticket, they will be dealt a 5-card Quick Pick poker hand that is valid for an instant in-store prize of up to $5,000, based on hitting a winning poker hand. Players will then hold onto their tickets for that evening's draw for $100,000.
Unofficial draw results will be announced on OLG.ca and in media outlets across Ontario. For nightly email alerts, players can subscribe to the Winners Edge eblast at http://member.olg.ca.
The overall odds of winning a prize in POKER LOTTO are 1 in 3.66 while the odds of winning the top prize of $100,000 are approximately 1 in 2.6 million. Full game details are available at lottery retailers and on the POKER LOTTO page of www.olg.ca.
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities.
