New Spiced Rum Offering from Gruppo Campari Brings an Intriguing New Story to the Category
LAWRENCEBURG, KY, May 4, 2017 /CNW/ - Gruppo Campari is pleased to introduce a new spiced rum to its Eastern Canadian rum portfolio – The Baron Samedi Spiced Rum. Hot off it's 2016 Canadian launch, The Baron Samedi is now available in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, with a scheduled release in Newfoundland this June.
Launch Dates
Melanie Batchelor, Vice President of Global Spirits at Gruppo Campari, notes: "We wanted to add a spiced rum to our portfolio that delivered an exceptional liquid and told a different back story to the navy and nautical themes that dominate the category. We think that we have accomplished this with The Baron Samedi Spiced Rum, which is named after one of the most notorious traditional Lao, or spirits, of Haitian Vodou culture."
"We are particularly proud of The Baron Samedi liquid which is a full flavoured spiced rum bottled at 45% alc./vol. and features Caribbean column still rum and a small amount of Jamaican pot still rum," says Batchelor. "We have used all natural ingredients in the blend including vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon and our signature spice, vetiver, which is a grass that is native to Haiti. It lends a fantastic woody and earthy flavour to the product. The Baron Samedi is smooth and rich and was specifically blended to be paired with traditional spiced rum mixers such as cola or ginger beer, or to be enjoyed as a shot."
The Baron Samedi's standout packaging features a proprietary square bottle and a multi-faceted label that wraps around the right side of the bottle while the left side features embellishments on the glass. All the design elements on the label, the bottle and the closure pay homage to The Baron Samedi's Caribbean home of Haiti.
The Baron Samedi Spiced Rum was initially launched in Canada, the United States, and Australia during the first half of 2016, coming to New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in early 2017. It has a RRP of CAD$29.95.
The Baron Samedi will be bottled at Gruppo Campari's production facility in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
Packaging: Proprietary bottle available in 750ml size.
The Baron Samedi label is multi-faceted and remarkably detailed. The label features 13 unique hand-illustrated elements with the portrait of Baron Samedi being the 14th element. The label wraps around the right side of the bottle while the left side features embellishments on the glass.
Liquid: The Baron Samedi Spiced Rum liquid is a full flavoured spiced rum that is bottled at 45% alc./vol (40% alc./vol for Australia) and features Caribbean column still rum and a small amount of Jamaican pot still rum with natural ingredients including cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon and the brand's signature spice – vetiver.
The Baron Samedi Spiced Rum has a beautiful dark mahogany colour.
The Baron Samedi: The Baron Samedi is one of the most notorious Vodou spirits, part of Haitian Vodou culture since the 18th century. The Baron is known to be raucous and unruly and he likes a drink of rum. He is often pictured as a tall, handsome black man, wearing a black top hat and a black tuxedo. He is sometimes depicted wearing dark glasses and with cotton plugs in his nostrils.
Baron Samedi is the Loa of the dead and resurrection. In his latter capacity he is often called on for healing those near death, as only the Baron can accept an individual into the realm of the dead. When someone dies, he digs their graves and greets their soul after they have been buried, leading them into the underworld
