Investing in Canada's future health leaders with the new Canadian Medical Hall of Fame award for medical students Français
LONDON, ON, Sept. 10, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) partnered with donors and Canada's 17 medical schools to identify young leaders completing their second year of medical school who exemplify the qualities of the Laureates of The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. <The 2015 recipients of The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award for Medical Students are listed on the following page>
"Laureates of The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame cite qualities such as perseverance, collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit as contributors to their success as national and world health leaders," said CMHF Board Chair Dr. Jean Gray. "With this award we seek to connect Canada's young health leaders to our recognized medical heroes as a source of inspiration and mentorship so that they may also achieve significant impact in their careers."
Students completing their second year of medical school, who demonstrate leadership through community involvement, superior interpersonal and communication skills, academic excellence and an established interest in advancing knowledge, were invited to apply.
Applicants submitted a 1,000 word essay describing why they should be considered for the Award and the qualities and impact of the CMHF Laureate who inspires them the most. Deans of the faculties of medicine/health sciences facilitated the review and each recommended one award recipient.
"We are very grateful to our donors and our program sponsor MD Financial Management for their generosity and investment in Canada's future health leaders and innovators," said Dr. Bryce Taylor, CMHF Vice Chair.
"I'd like to congratulate all 17 recipients of the inaugural Canadian Medical Hall of Fame awards," said Mike Gassewitz, MD's Executive Vice President of Member Solutions. "At MD, we know how expensive medical school is. We are pleased to be able to help the CMHF recognize the hard work and potential of these future Canadian health leaders, and support them with an award that will hopefully help take some of the worry out of their finances and leave them able to focus on their studies."
Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Award recipients receive a significant cash award over two years and a travel subsidy to attend The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame 2016 Induction Ceremony on April 14, 2016 in Hamilton. They will have the opportunity to meet Laureates of The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and interact with health leaders from across the country.
