Investing in the Future of Canadian Workers
TORONTO, Sept. 15, 2015 /CNW/ - LiUNA (Labourer's International Union of North America) applauds the announcement made by the Liberal Party of Canada this morning, introducing a plan that will improve investment in skills training through a $750 million annual increase in funding for training programs delivered in partnership with the provinces, territories, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit. With a further investment of $25 million per year in training facilities, this injection of necessary funding restores and improves deep cuts introduced by the Harper government.
With over 100,000 skilled workers, LiUNA is proud of its continued investment in the future of Canadians through its network of world class training facilities across Canada. Joseph Mancinelli, LiUNA International Vice President and Regional Manager for Central and Eastern Canada commented, "LiUNA is eager to work with the liberal government to restore the recent cuts to training facilities. In today's global economy, governments should be partners with private sector unions for the betterment of all Canadians. Stephen Harper's war on workers and unions is an ideological battle that only serves to hurt Canadians. Today's announcement is the beginning of a brighter future for all Canadians and for our members, looking to improve the quality of their lives." stated Mr. Joe Mancinelli.
Within the ten years of Harper government, the standard of living for Canadians has declined, jobs are becoming scarce, and the war on unions and skills training has left Canadians with little hope to access the training they need. "The plan announced by the Liberal Party this morning is a plan that will invest in the future of all Canadians. LiUNA Training Centres are the forefront of building and improving innovative skills and safety. Training courses allow members to access the required skills to better their lives and futures for their families," mentioned Sandro Pinto, Executive Director, LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre.
October 19th will mark a day of change in Canada. It will be a day that signifies a new beginning in which the hope and prosperity for all Canadians will be restored.
