Enhancing Safety in Northern Ontario
OTTAWA, June 30, 2014 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is investing $920,404 from the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP) for the installation of a new wildlife management fence and the replacement of a snowblower at the Dryden Regional Airport.
The wildlife management fencing is an important tool in controlling animals such as deer and bears on airport runways and surrounding land, while the snowblower will ensure the timely and effective removal of snow, slush and ice from runways and taxiways.
This funding is in addition to previous funding last year of $31,457 for the purchase of a runway condition reporting system which will provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions.
Quick Facts
- To date, through ACAP, the Dryden Regional Airport has received over $5.4 million in funding for 11 safety projects, including today's announcement.
- Previous projects included the rehabilitation of airside pavement, the replacement of a snowplow truck, and the upgrading of airfield lighting.
- Since the program started, the Government of Canada has invested close to $610 million for 765 projects at 174 airports across the country.
